Dalmatia: a sea of Mediterranean flavours

The aim of the project “Dalmacija – more okusa” (Dalmatia, a sea of flavours) is to promote the culinary heritage of Dalmatia by presenting local products and traditional recipes. The event brings international culinary experts together with local restaurateurs in order to strengthen food tourism in the region. Through workshops, presentations and cooking shows, it works towards a gourmet programme that would draw visitors to Dalmatia outside the usual tourist season.

Dalmatia is a heartland of flavour, where tradition and gastronomy meet. People here live with a love of olives, vines, fishing nets and shepherds’ meadows. Their hands keep family recipes that generations pass on with pride, and that turn a meal into something more than a meal. Every corner of Dalmatia has its culinary passion, because people prepare the best they have for their families, their friends and their guests.

Parts of the project:

  • A joint workshop (visiting chefs and representatives of restaurants) on fish recipes, with a recommendation that each participating restaurant adds one such dish to its menu, in Milna
  • A joint workshop (visiting chefs and representatives of restaurants) on traditional lamb recipes, with a recommendation that each participating restaurant adds one such dish to its menu
  • A presentation of the prepared dishes and recipes for the media
  • Preparation of dishes for a larger audience through cooking shows
  • A pilot programme for the participating international chefs, media representatives and local tourism professionals: a two day gourmet programme built around the island’s food, which can become a reason to visit the destination

The Dalmacija – more okusa festival can be designed in this or a similar format for any destination in Dalmatia, throughout the year.
Each festival should result in a gourmet programme that is promoted separately and offered as a reason to visit the destination outside the dates of the festival itself.

The project runs with the support of the Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board
